The Certified Nursing Assistant course gets you prepared to take the certification exam which is necessary to become a Certified Nursing Assistant in the state of Wyoming. Certified Nursing Assistants work in hospitals, nursing homes, and for home health care agencies under the supervision of licensed nursing personnel. This course presents basic nursing assistant principles as well as providing opportunities for practice and demonstration of skills related to patient care. The students' time will be divided between classroom instruction, laboratory time, and supervised practical experience in the hospital and/or nurising home settings.
Students must be at least 16 years of age. Students must have proof of current TB test prior to the start of clinicals. Students must have proof of two (2) MMR vaccinations or proof of immunity prior to start of clinicals. It is recommended that students have a current (less than 10 years) tetanus shot and begin the hepatitis B series prior to start of clinicals. The cost of the class is $226 which includes: Tuition; Textbook and Workbook; CPR training; and Central Registry check. Costs associated with the class which are not included in the enrollment and payable to other agencies are: Nurse Aid Competency Exam - $90; Licensing Fee - $120; First Aid Class (optional) - $35; scrubs; and a watch with a sweep second hand.
The CNA course runs three times a year: Spring semester and Fall semester classes run concurrently with the high school schedule; the Summer semester is a condensed version of the full-semester session. Although the class is shorter in time, it is not lacking in content. This is an intense session and not for the faint of heart.
