Carbon County Higher Education Center and Wyoming Department of Corrections are finalizing arrangements for a partnership to provide quality, affordable child care service in Rawlins for WDOC staff and CCHEC students. Together we will meet the needs of our communities' families.

Many parents in the community who want to pursue higher education opportunities and/or work in non-traditional environments lack availability of quality, affordable child care.

The goal of Kids' Campus is to provide quality, affordable child care to DOC parents and CCHEC students pursuing self-sufficiency; as well as to foster the social and emotional development of every child in a safe educational environment."The nature of meeting the needs of the young children and their families in our community involves multiple organizations working together. The connection between early care and education must aim at building quality in all domains. Quality early care and childhood education is a proven foundation to assure K-12 educational success, especially for those children living in circumstances that place them at risk of school failure. The number one recommendation from the State of Wyoming's Children and Families Initiative is: High Quality Early Childhood Development."

Curriculum
CCHEC will provide professional educators to train teaching staff and oversee the program. The center will dually serve as an educational institution for developing happy, healthy children as well as an educational practicum for CCHEC students pursuing education in child care vocations. This will include solid grounding in child development, educational philosophy, and knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices. It will also include solid grounding in healthy youth/ healthy communities under the direction of our professional nursing staff and nursing students. As well prepared professionals, they are in a position to maximize the educational opportunities that arise in every interaction throughout the day together.
Environment
The center will participate in the US Department of Education Child and Adult Care Food Program to provide 3 nutritious meals per day as well as 2 nutritious snacks per day.

The center will be arranged into two wings; infant/toddler on one side and preschool/school age on the opposite side bordering a central multipurpose room. Separate rooms throughout the center will house kitchen, administration, nursing, and library.
