CCHEC became the first certified school in the state of Wyoming to offer its pre-engineering high school students a chance to earn college credit through Project Lead the Way (PLTW). CCHEC pays college credit costs for any student who successfully completes the college portion of the class.
Students are bused to CCHEC for a hands-on, real-world problem-solving approach to learning. In these courses, students learn how to use the same industry-leading 3D design software that's used by companies like Intel, Lockheed Martin and Pixar. They apply biological and engineering concepts related to biomechanics - think robotics. Students design, test and actually construct circuits and devices like a MP3 player.
The PLTW pre-engineering courses that we offer are: Digital Electronics - Use of computer simulation to learn the logic of electronics. Introduction to Engineering Design - 3D computer modeling software; study of the design process. Principles of Engineering - Exploration of technology systems and engineering processes.
CCHEC now offers a PLTW Biomedical Sciences Program at Rawlins High School. Students also may have the opportunity to earn free college credit through these courses. In this program, students explore the concepts of human medicine and are introduced to bioinformatics, including mapping and analyzing DNA.Through activities, like dissecting a heart, students examine the processes, structures and interactions of the human body - often playing the role of biomedical professionals to solve mysteries. Think CSI meets ER.
The PLTW biomedical course that we offer is: Principles of the Biomedical Sciences - Introduction to biology concepts through the study of human diseases.
