Wilton Cake Decorating – Course 1

Discover cake decorating! In this one day class, you will learn the fundamentals of cake decorating including baking and cake preparation hints and tips. There is plenty of individual attention, with Sara Sullivan as your guide, you are about to see how easy and rewarding it is to decorate wonderful cakes and other desserts that will delight your family and friends. Step-by-step techniques make it easy to learn each method. This class also includes a cake decorating kit, handouts and the course 1 book.

Build on the skills you learned in Course 1! Master elegant new borders featuring rosettes, reverse shells and rope designs. Create royal icing flowers including rosebuds, daisies, daffodils and more. Use these flowers in a grand finale – an impressive cake using the basket-weave technique.

Reach a new level of decorating sophistication with the beautiful flowers and techniques in Course 3. Begin with intricate accents such as embroidery, string-work, garland and ruffle borders. Discover the beauty of decorating with rolled fondant – for covering cakes with smooth surfaces and making elegant flowers. Complete your course by assembling and decorating a tiered cake!

• Writing an Effective Resume: Participants will discuss the importance of tailoring cover letters/resumes for specific employer needs. Using the computer lab at CCHEC’s Main Campus, each individual will create at least one resume and cover letter which they can then take with them, as well as being provided with a flash drive on which to save their information for future editing. Participants should come prepared with a complete job history, including contact information for past employers and dates of employment. This workshop will be offered Monday, January 18 from 8-10am; Tuesday, January 19 from 6-8pm; Tuesday, February 16 from 6-8pm; Wednesday, February 24 from 8-10am; Thursday, March 4 from 6-8pm; Wednesday, March 24 from 8-10am; Wednesday, April 7 from 6-8pm and Thursday, April 29 from 8-10am.
• Critical Interview Skills: Participants are introduced to key elements of completing a successful interview. These include, but will not be limited to, verbal and non-verbal cues, dressing for success, and answering questions in a way that shows their strengths. They will be given a chance to practice these skills with each other and the instructor. This workshop will be offered Monday, January 18 from 10:15am-12:15pm; Monday, January 25 from 6-8pm; Thursday, February 18 from 6-8pm; Wednesday, February 24 from 10:15-12:15am; Tuesday, March 9 from 6-8pm; Wednesday, March 24 from 10:15am-12:15pm; Wednesday, April 14 from 6-8pm and Thursday, April 29 from 10:15am-12:15pm.
• Workplace Professionalism: Employers are looking to hire employees that understand the meaning and importance of work-ethic, communication skills, conflict resolution, the professional boundaries regarding dress as well as the value of good customer service. Participants will be provided a copy of the book “The Etiquette Edge: The Unspoken Rules for Business Success” for further reference. This workshop will be offered Monday, January 18 from 12:45-2:45pm; Tuesday, January 26 from 6-8pm; Monday, February 22 from 6-8pm; Wednesday, February 24 from 12:45-2:45pm; Wednesday, March 10 from 6-8pm;Wednesday, March 24 from 12:45-2:45pm; Monday, April 12 from 6-8pm and Thursday, April 29 from 12:45-2:45pm.
• Computer Basics Briefing: Participants will be introduced to the basics of using a computer, keyboarding and the internet. An emphasis will be placed on using search engines to find job openings and fill out on-line applications. They will be given resources they could use to continue improving their computer skills. All will leave with a professionally appropriate e-mail account from a free service such as Yahoo! or Google. This workshop will be offered Monday, January 18 from 3-5pm; Thursday, January 28 from 6-8pm; Tuesday, February 23 from 6-8pm; Wednesday, February 24 from 3-5pm; Monday, March 15 from 6-8pm; Wednesday, March 24 from 3-5pm; Tuesday, April 20 from 6-8pm and Thursday, April 29 from 3-5pm.
All workshops will be held at CCHEC, 705 Rodeo Street in Rawlins. All workshops are free and open to the public but preregistration is required. Call 324-3485 to reserve your spot. Individuals can attend one or all of the workshops.
