Wind Energy continues to be a topic of conversation in Wyoming and all around the nation. Carbon County has the potential to be a leading provider of wind energy, but what does that mean for the residents of Carbon County and the land that we treasure?
We are proud to host our 3rd Annual Celebration of Wind on Saturday, May 21, 2011. Join us as we learn about the controversies surrounding wind energy, what plans are in place for transmission lines, what wind energy topics are currently under discussion, what employment opportunities wind energy brings and more.
Carbon County Higher Education Center is in the business of educating people, but we don’t mind having a little fun while we’re doing it. We want to give people the opportunity to learn more about Carbon County’s contribution to alternative energy while celebrating the asset that makes us unique. The Celebration of Wind will feature radio-controlled helicopters, paper airplanes, dog Frisbee contests and of course, kites.
Connor Doran
This year we are proud to feature kite flying extraordinaire, Connor Doran, from
America's Got Talent! Connor was in the top 12 of 90,000 who auditioned for the hit reality TV show, America's Got Talent. Come watch his moving performance as he gracefully moves kites synchronized to music.
Connor was diagnosed with epilepsy at the age of four and along with giving a indoor kite flying performance, Connor will answer questions and give a short presentation on how flying kites has helped him deal with stress. The Wyoming Epilepsy Association and the Wyoming Institute for Disabilities are partnering with Carbon County Higher Education Center to bring Connor and his mom to Wyoming.
Wind Racers
Carbon County Higher Education Center is bringing back an old Rawlins favorite-wind racers. The wind racer competition will take place May 21, 2011 at 10:00 am in Rawlins, WY during the Celebration of Wind.
Wind racers are non-motorized vehicles that use wind as their primary source of propulsion. They can be as simple as a Radio Flyer wagon with a sheet for a mast or as complex as a world class racer. Groups and individuals are encouraged to be creative in their design as a prize will be awarded for most unique racer.
Rawlins last held a wind racer competition in 1983 when the “Jade Mile Association” sponsored the Wyoming Wind Wagon Races. The Carbon County Museum provided CCHEC with the list of clever rules used for the competition and felt their creativity could not be matched. Click here for the 1983 rules that will be used for this year's competition.
We invite leaders in wind energy technology to be exhibitors at our festival and sponsor a booth This is a rare opportunity to explain your role in wind energy in a festive atmosphere and we look forward to sharing the day with you.
